Good Stewards of Your Tax Dollars

The Canfield Police Department has worked hard to be a good steward of your tax dollars.

Over the last 10 years, due to inflation and increases in property valuation, the value of the levy revenue has decreased. However, the renewal does not ask for an increase.

The department has managed its budget and is able to maintain its high level of service with only a levy renewal.

Background

Why the Levy Was Needed in 2017

The State made changes to how local governments are funded:

  1. 01 Reduction in distributions from the Local Government Fund
  2. 02 Elimination of the Inheritance Tax
  3. 03 Changes in municipal tax regulation
  4. 04 Reduction in investment income due to regulatory changes

These changes resulted in a

$1.1 million

reduction in revenue for the City of Canfield.
